Amethyst

is a member of the quartz family. It ranges in colour from a rich, deep purple to very pale lilac. Opaque, translucent or transparent, amethyst is a hugely popular gemstone widely used in contemporary jewellery. The name derives from the Greek word amethustos, meaning without wine and legend has it that amethyst helps prevent drunkenness; it is also associated with sincerity, security and spirituality.
